Born to Serve
Born to Serve… a journey and testimony of God’s Amazing Grace….
Thank you God, for the trip you gave to me as you showed me who to speak with, pray with and worship with as I traveled along your ‘highway in the clouds’ to Brussels. It is all a learning thing for me…one in which I desire to grow and be as God leads me. I thank God for the experience of learning and growing along with Christians, and non-Christians…in a world in need of His Amazing Grace.
My flight into Chicago on Sunday was blessed as I sat next to a young man on his way to Iraq. He was not in uniform. I asked him to excuse me while I took my window seat next to him, and upon hearing his reply “yes, maam”, I knew he might have been in the military. We began talking right away. He was in the military, and headed for Iraq in a few days. The sweet essence of God in our presence was such a gift. This soldier allowed me to share my journal of favorite scripture, as a promise when in need of hearing from God. The boy’s name was David, and he seemed grateful for this meeting in the sky as we shared in God’s Word. Before leaving his home, David told me his grandfather had given him his Bible! This was his first deployment, and although he was prepared for the duty facing him, David was unsure of what he may expect. Before landing, I asked David if he would mind if I prayed. He gratefully accepted and we began to pray. Thank you God! I ask that You continue to bless David with safety and wisdom in difficult situations during his time in Iraq…that you allow him to be a light to the soldiers in need of hearing from the God who loves them so much and wants them to know their Heavenly Father the way that David does. You have placed a missionary in a field of darkness and I pray that you place your wings of protection around him as he speaks of the truth awaiting him and many others…when they seek You God. I praise Your Holy Name.
My flight home awaited treasures. After receiving a compliment on my cross necklace, a gift from a friend upon being baptized, more conversations opened up…this time about being baptized as an adult…and accepting Jesus Christ as your Savior….such a beautiful thing as God just turned a simple statement of “Oh, I love your cross necklace!”…into a blessing of shared truth…among flight crew members!
Also, on the flight home were many passengers I engaged in conversation with…an evangelist/missionary, who lives in Africa, and was on her way to Toronto, who travels the world evangelizing. Theo was reading her Bible on the flight and I stopped to begin talking with her. We shared some things about our faith. She told me when she came to the back of the flight earlier…she noticed that I was reading my Bible too and thought it was a beautiful thing to see! The Lord then led us into prayer! The prayer was a gift…a sweet gift over the Ocean among two women who will probably only meet again when in Heaven!
Another passenger and I shared a conversation in celebration of Our Savior, as this woman was from Africa, but lives in the States…and was so grateful to be in a place in which she could worship in freedom! How exciting that God began opening up praises…at 35,000 feet in the air…among people who had never seen or met each other…yet shared one beautiful thing in common…their love for a most amazing Heavenly Father.
Thank you for the gift of flight…over oceans and countries…among people I may or may not ever see again…but have a promise of seeing the blessings when we meet again in Your home that You have prepared for us. I love you dearly and pray you continue to teach me as I yearn to be a voice of love, truth and comfort for those you place in my path! To God be the Glory!
